Non i.c.t research

In the book  ‘Journalism’ page 178 , this showed me how interactive texts are both written and read, the book surveys the new technologies and conventions that online journalism. This book has also showed me how the internet has changed the public reading online stories, instead of reading newspapers. This helped me with my assignment as it showed me the competition between newspapers and the internet.

Primary source for research assignment

During college two Blaine brothers,  ’short filmakers’ along with their assistant Katie came in to speak to us about how they make their short films and how they promote their short films.

I found out from Katie that..

her job was to promote the short films that Ben and Chris made by sending them to different types of festivals.’ In order to carry this out Katie would need to do a lot of secondary research so she could find out what festivals she could show the short films to. Katie also mentioned that she would need to research different genres meaning whether festivals only screened films by their genre or whether it was all genres.

In the book ‘Research Methods’ page 109, I found some research about ethics for my case study assignment here is what I found out:

.’Ethical concerns will emerge as you plan your reasearch seek access to indivuduals, collect, analyse and report your data.

.’In the context of research ethics refers to the appropriateness of your behaviour in relation to the rights of those who become the subject of your work, or affected by it.

This research showed me why ethical research is important and how to go about researching such as questionnaires and speaking to individuals personally to collect the data you need.

In the book: BTEC introduction business, page 17, I found some information about market research and quantitative research for my research essay. Here is some of the information I found out;

‘The marketing function involves identifying and satisfying customer needs. You can research this by:’

.sending out questionnaires to customers

.organising direct mail campaigns

.co-ordinating special offers

Quantitative Methods

. Many people say some data or if proper planning is not done then mistakes might be made, however some data even if inaccurate is better than no data.

.More broadly data may be so misleading that managers make the wrong decisions and actually harm an organisation rather than give benefits, the collection, presentation and analysis of quantitative data.

I found this information useful and this research helped me write and add to my essay.

Primary source for short film assignment

Ben and Chris Blaine (two film makers) spoke to us about some of the short films they have made and how they got in to making short films. I found out…

Their first successful short film was called ‘Free Speech’ , it took a day and a half to make all togther.

They have been making short films for ten years.

They got in to the business with no experience except practicing filming they done at school and managed to work them selves up.

Some important advice they gave us was to keep all the contacts you know and friends for the future.

Many of their ideas have come from life experiences that have gave them inspiration to make short films.

Another tip of advice is to put yourself out there as things will not come to you.

After listening to Ben and Chris I realized how long it takes to produce a short film and how much work is actually put into it.

After the Blaine brothers spoke to us, it gave me different ideas for my previous short film I made (the conversation) some changes I could of made are:

.Adding some of my own ideas to the script using inspiration.

.Using different camera angles throughout not just one.

.Practicing filming before filming the actual conversation.

.Also using fading effects to block out the jump shots.

Here is the webite I used to find my media job ad, the job I found was a trainee journalist which I found very interesting.

http://jobs.guardian.co.uk/job/968302/trainee-journalists/

Another website I found useful was http://internships.about.com/od/journalism/ht/journalismjobs.htm this told me the challenges of journalism such as last minute assigments, irregular hours and last minute travel. This website also showed me some courses I could take to get into journalism such as computer science, business and Sociology.

Piracy

Filed under: Media industry — by emmadensley @ 1:34 pm

Piracy is illegual in the UK, people do this to make easy money by selling on cheap copies they have videoed themselves from the cinema, I think piracy is wrong and I would rather go to the cinema and watch the film as the picture is better quality and sometimes when people make copies of the film they miss out big chunks of the film.
